In our previous video, we promised to explain how the recent reforms to Mexico’s Federal Public Administration are directly impacting the telecommunications, technology, and software sectors — especially if you’re a supplier to the federal government.

🚨 Attention software companies: this update is crucial. Mexico’s new Agency for Digital Transformation and Telecommunications is now responsible for setting national policies on telecommunications and broadcasting. One of its most ambitious projects is the creation of a Public Software Factory, allowing the government to develop its own tech solutions and share them with state and municipal governments.

👉 What does this mean for you? If you sell software to the government, you’ll need to innovate, differentiate, and protect your IP more than ever.

🛰️ But that’s not all. This same agency will now oversee the Mexican Space Program, which includes the launch of two telecommunications satellites and one earth observation satellite in the coming years.

📡 Additionally, the agency will handle telecom concessions — including both their issuance and revocation.

⚠️ There’s significant regulatory uncertainty, as the replacement framework for the Federal Institute of Telecommunications (IFT) has yet to be published. Recent reforms were approved with limited legal clarity.

💻 And finally, all federal purchases of software, hardware, and telecommunications services will now require approval from this new agency.
